I don’t like how social media is typically used, so I am not a part of it. I think it steals our joy and encourages comparing ourselves to others. Typically you put your best and embellished stories out there to be read, or viewed in photos. I have FaceBook because of a few advanced groups that we offer support to. I don’t post and I don’t really pay attention to my steam when I log in. But yesterday and today I see the same thing over and over again when I login. This reaction towards the NFL, Nike, etc.
I am not sharing my opinion about all of it. But something that I read yesterday with my girls in Crazy Love totally seems applicable in general.
Our culture says anything goes, fear of God is almost unheard of. We are slow to listen, quick to speak, and quick to become angry.Francis Chan – Crazy Love
That comes to mind when I see all the views being shared and the way they are shared. I am all for the freedom to express our opinions and I am thankful that we can do so without fear of being silenced. But there is a wise way to handle how we come to our convictions and how we express them. Francis Chan is using James 1:19 and flipping it around to make a point.
Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters! Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.James 1:19
Being quick to listen and understand, slow to speak our minds and even slower to express our anger will allow us to stay civil, remain a community and speak the truth in love while being true to our convictions.
Just some thoughts I had today that I wanted to share.
