There are a few routines that have been in my life for a very long time that I wanted to share. These simple hobbies and habits bring me a lot of joy and are a part of who I am. Maybe they have been a part of forming who I am. Maybe it’s a little of both. 🙂
Downtimes: When I need downtime, I read Calvin and Hobbes comics and listen to music. I have found that REM pairs really well with Calvin and Hobbes. Automatic for the people being my favorite.
Can’t Sleep: When I can’t sleep at night, I read Tintin. My father introduced me to Tintin comics when I was 8 and I have read through them countless times. They are complex and very wordy with lots of story arcs, which makes it a great way to pass the time and has the side effect of making me sleepy when I am unable to sleep.
Deep Reading: I enjoy reading theology and I study every morning. I journal and pray and focus off myself and all my stuff and shift my thinking towards others.
Extra Reading: Philosophy is a favorite subject and I really enjoy reading. I read Philosophy best outside, not sure why, but I not only enjoy it more outside, I seem to retain more of what I read.
Creative: When I am feeling creative I like to journal, write and create music. Mostly guitar and keyboards. I really enjoy using Ableton Live to create electronic music. This often happens late at night or very early in the morning. Lately I have wanted to do some video editing too.
Science Fiction: Now that the kids are older, we don’t do it as much, but it used to be a very regular thing that we would watch Star Trek TNG and Voyager together. As well as Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. Unwinding in the evening with these shows was something we did for years and years.
Weekends: Weekends are for unwinding and I have found chores around the ranch to be relaxing, woodworking projects, fixing broken things, and finding stuff to do with the kids.
