The following video made it easy to understand the difference between CLAUDE.md and MEMORY.md. Though, honestly, I almost asked Claude to explain it to me like I was 5 years old. I still prefer video. 🙂

  • Two memory types: Auto memory (Claude writes) + CLAUDE.md (you write)
  • CLAUDE.md hierarchy: Managed – Project – User – Project local – Auto
  • Use /memory to manage auto memory or toggle it on/off
  • 200 line limit on auto memory MEMORY.md – keep it concise
